## Why Vetting Matters More Than Ever

Booking the right speaker is the most important decision an event planner makes. When you put someone on stage, you are trusting them with your brand's reputation and your audience's time. A great speaker can transform a conference, while a poor fit can leave your attendees checking their watches. To protect your event's success, you need a systematic way to separate the amateurs from the true professionals.

## 1. Can You Provide a Raw, Unedited Video of a Recent Talk?

High-end sizzle reels are easy to produce, but they rarely tell the whole story. A professionally edited highlight clip hides dead air, audience disengagement, or poor stage presence. By asking for an unedited video, you see exactly how the speaker handles a room in real-time. Do they bridge the gap between their content and the audience's needs? Do they recover gracefully if the technology fails? A speaker who is truly prepared will have no trouble sharing raw footage because they are confident in their craft.

## 2. How Do You Customize Your Message for This Specific Audience?

Generic presentations are the enemy of engagement. A professional speaker should be able to articulate exactly how their core message will be tailored to your specific audience demographics, pain points, and current goals. If they cannot explain how they intend to research your industry or incorporate your event theme, they are likely delivering a 'canned' speech. Ask them for specific examples of how they adjusted their content for their last three clients to gauge their commitment to relevance.

## 3. What Does Your Pre-Event and Post-Event Support Look Like?

Great speaking doesn't stop when the microphone is turned off. A seasoned professional understands that they are a partner in your event's success. This includes being available for pre-event strategy calls, helping to promote the event on their social media channels, and providing actionable takeaways for your attendees after the session concludes. A speaker who is purely transactional will show up, talk, and leave. A speaker who is truly 'ready' for your event will invest in the outcome of your entire program.
