## Why Speaker Vetting Matters for Event Planners

As an event planner, your reputation hinges on the quality of your speakers. A misaligned presenter can leave your audience bored or, worse, off-message. Before you sign a contract, you need to go beyond the speaker's flashy website video. You need to verify their ability to tailor content, handle logistical surprises, and truly connect with your specific audience. Hiring the wrong person is a risk that can lead to negative feedback and wasted budget.

## 1. How Do You Customize Your Content for This Audience?

A professional speaker who says they 'have a great universal talk' should be a red flag. The best speakers recognize that every group has unique pain points, corporate culture, and goals. Ask them for specific examples of how they research your attendees beforehand. Are they willing to interview a few key stakeholders? Will they weave in your event's specific themes? If they cannot give you a concrete process for customization, they are likely delivering a canned speech that will lack impact.

## 2. Can You Walk Me Through Your Tech and Setup Requirements?

High-quality speakers understand that performance is just half the job; the other half is technical integration. A speaker who is 'ready' knows exactly what they need in terms of audio, visual, and lighting. They should be able to provide clear technical riders and be willing to collaborate with your AV team. If they seem indifferent to the technical logistics, it often points to a lack of professionalism that could cause headaches on event day.

## 3. How Do You Handle Audience Engagement and Q&A Sessions?

A keynote speech should not be a one-way lecture. Exceptional speakers know how to read the room and pivot based on the energy levels of the audience. Ask them how they manage transitions and if they are comfortable with interactive components or impromptu Q&A sessions. Knowing they can handle a live crowd effectively provides peace of mind that your event will be dynamic, regardless of the venue size or audience demographics.
